Southern Downs Update

The Southern Downs is a progressive, confident region, with a positive attitude to growth.

With clean, crisp country air, a low crime rate and a wide range of community facilities, our communities of Warwick and Stanthorpe, and the delightful villages throughout the region, offer an enviable lifestyle, which captures the imagination.

Pristine World Heritage-listed national parks, rainforests and waterfalls, quality affordable housing, wide ranging recreational and sporting choices and a vibrant events calendar, are just some of the attractions driving the continued growth of the Southern Downs.

“There’s barely a weekend goes by that there’s not some fantastic event on in the region.”

Tourism in the Warwick region is largely events driven with the Morgan Park Raceway and Morgan Park horse events providing regular economic stimulus for the region. As the Horsepower Capital of Australia, Warwick and its Morgan Park precinct host fast-paced motorsport along with skilful displays of horsemanship in sports such as polocrosse and eventing.

Warwick is also home to a beautiful steam train called the Downs Dasher. Imagine sitting in the carriage of an authentic steam locomotive, chugging towards your destination as the rolling countryside passes by. Patrons can re-visit the romance of the steam era and celebrate Warwick’s rich steam history with a ride from Warwick to Clifton or Warwick to Stanthorpe and Wallangarra on the Downs Dasher, so lovingly restored by the Southern Downs Steam Railway Association. Visit www.southerndownssteamrailway.com.au for details and timetables.

Why not make a diary note to attend one of Warwick’s flagship events – Jumpers & Jazz in July or the Rose and Rodeo Festival (October).
